My decks: The Mystical Cats Tarot

I am delighted to announce that you can now order readings with the gorgeous Mystical Cats Tarot from my shop!  I have added my beloved deck to the options you can choose from 😊

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll probably have noticed how much I love and use this beautiful deck.

From its gorgeous watercolour artwork by Mickie Mueller to the ‘very cat’ guidebook, this deck is a lovingly powerful deck for anyone who likes cats. (If you prefer dogs, Mickie’s Magical Dogs Tarot will be released in September 2018! Much excite!)

I find it very easy to interpret and gain insight from the Mystical Cats Tarot: the story of each card is very clearly portrayed, and the energy lovingly depicted. A gentle humour and appreciation of the reality of cats comes through in both the images and the guidebook. This deck is thoroughly grounded in reality, but gently so.

Let’s take a closer look:

The cards

VIII Strength - a black cat calmly sits with birds perched all over in front of a landscaped garden

Strength is depicted here not as outer brute force, but as self-control and inner strength (though I do hope those pretty birds don’t push their luck tooooo far!)

I do love the mix of determination and relaxation on this cat’s face!

XIII Death - a ginger cat lies on a bed of branches in a forest as it spirit leaves to join its previous lives

As I’ve mentioned before, I regard the Death card as a good insight into the personality of a deck.

In this case, it has both a gentleness and a realistic inevitability about it – which very much echoes the feel of this deck. It doesn’t hide from the realities of life & death, but it will be as kind as it can when pointing things out.

I love the line of the nine lives in this image. It is sad, yet celebratory and hopeful, all at once.

The Queens

Earth Queen, Sky Queen, Fire Queen and Sea Queen

The elemental personalities of the different queens are very evident in this deck. The elements are named for their natural state: earth, sky, fire and sea (no need to try to remember what wands means!) The court cards are adjusted for the feline world: Kitten (for Page), Tom (for Knight), Queen and King. I like this a lot – it makes the energy of the card very clear.

I like that these cats are both (very) individual characters as well as archetypes. This makes interpretation easier for me. They each encapsulate the energy of their suit alongside their feminine sovereignty.

The Aces

Ace of Earth, Ace of Sky, Ace of Fire, Ace of Sea

When I show people this deck, it’s the Aces that capture their attention every time (which intrigues me, because that isn’t what drew me to the deck at all!)

The strength of these depictions of the elemental energy of each suit is wonderful.

My favourite card

XIX Sun - a group of cats lie snoozing in the sun around a golden statue of Sekhmet

I couldn’t write this post without including my favourite card/image in this deck. “The Sun” truly captures the essence of cat-ness as these relaxed felines snooze at the feet of their sun goddess. I love it! 🌞
